In this day and age of digital media and the growing influence of the blogosphere, why would someone choose to pursue a career in newspaper journalism? We asked that question to two local journalists, Shruti Mathur Desai, a reporter at the Courier-Post and Joel Mathis, formerly of Philadelphia Weekly and currently a contributor to the weekly RedBlueAmerica column for Scripps Howard News Service. Desai and Mathis, who both have extensive experience writing as print journalists, talked frankly about the death of print media, the conflict between journalists and bloggers and their advice for young journalists. And then they tried to interview us… but what else would you expect from a couple of journos?
