When the Philadelphia Free Library introduced the city to One Book, One Philadelphia in 2003, the very first book they chose to feature was Philadelphia-based author, Lorene Cary’s The Price of a Child. Since then, Cary has gone on to write FREE!, a book of stories about the Underground Railroad geared towards young adults and most recently, If Sons, Then Heirs, a novel centered around the story of a young man drawn to explore the long-buried secrets of his Southern family. We talked with Cary about her latest writing, her baby (the beautiful Art Sanctuary) and her advice to aspiring writers.
